The Ace Of Spades Watch by AVI-8

The Hawker Harrier Ace of Spades refers to the Marine Attack Squadron 231 United States Marine Corps that flies the AV-8B Harrier II McDonnell Douglas evolution of the HawkerHarrier.

A bit of history

This version of the Harrier was launched in the early 1990s. U.S. Army General Norman Schwarzkopf named the Harrier / AV-8B’s as one of the most important weapons of the 1991 Gulf War. It continues to serve the needs of the Ace of Spades squadron to this day in various theatres of combat, providing close air support for ground troops and performing armed reconnaissance.

In details

Measuring 46 mm in diameter the watch is built around a sturdy well-built case featuring a flat scratch-resistant sapphire lens. A crown positioned at the 2 o’clock positioned features a start insignia in a nod to the US Air Force insignia marking its namesake aircraft.

Comprised of more than 30 unique pieces, each part of the dial has been carefully designed and laid out in keeping with inspiration provided by the Harrier.

The passage of seconds is marked out by a custom modified disc just below the 3 o’clock position and the 24-hour subdial has been constructed with a series of layers and indexes which have been individually facetted applied with brush and polish finishes.

This attention to detail and finishing can be found across the dial. The result is a dial that while offering a clear cut time display, presents a contemporary military industrialized look.

Bold Flieger style hour and minute hands are bold and utterly legible, allowing for a clear presentation of time and are lumed with Swiss luminous for low light visibility.

A robust but supple genuine leather strap with military-inspired stitching hugs the watch to the wrist with a fit that is durable and effortlessly wearable.

Wear It Your Way by Superdry

Superdry has just launched a new campaign and it’s called My Way. This did throw me back to year 1969 (even if I wasn’t born) and to Sinatra’s iconic song ‘My Way’.

This made me revisit the lyrics of this old time classic. Just go to Verse 5:
For what is a man (…)

Meaning that of you are not living your own life, but rather the one you are told to live, then you are not living at all.

Our Opinion

LACONIA Fragrance by Tom Daxon

We were really pleased to try the new Tom Daxon fragrance.

The best way to introduce it would be to quote them: “Laconia eau de parfum, a vibrant and zesty fragrance that is reminiscent of homemade Grecian lemonade”.

The story behind the fragrance

Tom Daxon spent the autumn of 2017 in Monemvasia, Greece.

He drunk a ‘real’ and vibrant-flavoured homemade lemonade made from lemons grown on the hotel’s estate; mixed with ice, mint and some local honey. It seemed like the idea of a perfect summer fragrance – something to refresh and revive in the heat. This is how it all started.

For the anecdote, Laconia is the region of Greece Tom travelled to.

What is the fragrance made of

With a heart of water mint, green violet leaf and jasmine, the light floral scent is injected with zesty punches of lemon, orange and mandarin top notes. A base of sea salt, vetiver and cardamom culminates in a rich aquatic scent that lingers on skin. Addictively wearable, Laconia is elegant and fresh – the perfect fragrance for spring and summer.
